In spring 2018, I costumed a high school production of Arthur Miller's The Crucible. The director chose to set the play in a distant-future place. I worked to choose and create costumes that were subversively archetypal. The audience was expected to have a hard time determining exactly in which decade the play was taking place.
I emphasized character identities by choosing functional colors and a recognizable silhouettes. These silhouettes were determined by the characters age and ultimate role in storytelling.
